Hello Parents,
Happy Wednesday! I hope all of you are doing well. Today, we had a great day in class. We officially launched our reading and math curriculum. During the week, the students have participated in a few skills checks so that we may outline their goals for the year. One important item to mention is in regards to math. The 5th grade standards rely heavily on student math fact knowledge. In particular, their multiplication and division facts. Most of our content will be based on this foundation and involve multi-step word problems. Once a student has gained fact mastery, comprehension is greatly increased. Beginning next week, students will have continual math facts checks in class. Based on proficiency, homework may include extra facts practice. I will show the class how to access the fluency practice on Moby Max. Also, there are many resources available online. There are worksheets that can be downloaded for free. Also, flash cards will offer great practice. These can be found at any teacher supply store, retail stores, such as Target and Walmart, and teacher supply stores. Amazon has many options at very reasonable prices. This Friday, I will send home the facts check that was done in class. This will give you an idea of your child's proficiency. They were given 5 minutes to complete as many facts as they could. I am confident that all of my students will develop proficiency in their facts. Also, on Thursday, August 23rd, we will have our annual Back to School Night from 5:00-6:00 pm. There will be two half-hour sessions to allow for parents to visit another classroom. This is an opportunity to learn more about our class and the curriculum for the year. I will send another reminder as the date approaches. Thank you, parents! It has been such a great start to our year. I have a fantastic class. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Take care! Comments are closed.
