Happy Wednesday! I hope all of you are doing well. Today, we had a great day in class. We officially launched our reading and math curriculum. During the week, the students have participated in a few skills checks so that we may outline their goals for the year. One important item to mention is in regards to math. The 5th grade standards rely heavily on student math fact knowledge. In particular, their multiplication and division facts. Most of our content will be based on this foundation and involve multi-step word problems. Once a student has gained fact mastery, comprehension is greatly increased. Beginning next week, students will have continual math facts checks in class. Based on proficiency, homework may include extra facts practice. I will show the class how to access the fluency practice on Moby Max. Also, there are many resources available online. There are worksheets that can be downloaded for free. Also, flash cards will offer great practice. These can be found at any teacher supply store, retail stores, such as Target and Walmart, and teacher supply stores. Amazon has many options at very reasonable prices. This Friday, I will send home the facts check that was done in class. This will give you an idea of your child's proficiency. They were given 5 minutes to complete as many facts as they could. I am confident that all of my students will develop proficiency in their facts. Also, on Thursday, August 23rd, we will have our annual Back to School Night from 5:00-6:00 pm. There will be two half-hour sessions to allow for parents to visit another classroom. This is an opportunity to learn more about our class and the curriculum for the year. I will send another reminder as the date approaches. Thank you, parents! It has been such a great start to our year. I have a fantastic class. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Take care! Hello Parents,
I hope you are all doing well! This Friday, our 5th graders will be attending our Fun and Fitness event at Rock Fitness Climbing Gym in Wildomar. Please review the following instructions: 1. Rock Fitness Waiver - Climbers must fill have a completed waiver filled out before being allowed to participate. You can fill out the waiver here. Please make sure this is done prior to the day of the event. 2. Drop off and Pick up - All students will meet at the Rock Fitness gym. Please know that we will meet there and not at Santa Rosa. Check-in will be done in front of the climbing facility. Please arrive at 8:45am. Once all of the students get checked in, we can begin climbing. We will not start until all students check in, so arrive no later than 8:45am. Pick up is at 12:15pm. Mr. Briggs and I will be standing out in the front to make sure that all students are checked out. This will be done in accordance with the names indicated on the Rock Fitness Drivers survey that was sent out last week. Also, please make sure to arrive for pick-up on time. Since Friday is a school wide minimum day, there is no need to return to Santa Rosa to check out. Once the students leave Rock Fitness, they are done for the day. Rock Fitness Climbing Gym can be found at: Rock Fitness 24305 Prielipp Road. Suite 107 Wildomar CA, 92562 3. Dress - All students need to wear athletic uniform bottoms. No short shorts as the students will be climbing. Athletic shoes are needed. No jeans. Students must wear their SRA polo shirts. If your child happens to have any athletic white shirt from SRA (for example, SRA basketball), they are permitted to wear them. Otherwise, your child must come in an SRA polo. 4. Lunch - Students will have snack and lunch at the climbing gym. We encourage the use of a brown sack lunch for easy disposal, with your child's name written on it. Also, please send your child with a water bottle. Water fountains are available on site, but many students prefer their own water bottles for easy access. 5. Drivers Form - Students who will be brought to the site with another parent from the classroom, as well as drivers, need to fill out the field trip driver's form that was sent out last week. So far, I have received four slips. We need those turned in as soon as possible. 6. Other - Teachers and the rock climbing team will be supervising the field trip. Unfortunately, this is a closed field trip for all others. The gym will still be open to members and they would like to keep the site open for them to climb. I will take pictures during the event and will make sure to send them out in a group email. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Thank you and have a great rest of your day! I hope all of you are enjoying your weekend! I am looking forward to our first day of school tomorrow and I am very excited to get to know my wonderful class for the 2017-2018 school year. I wanted to send a quick message regarding the morning drop off. The students will follow their normal morning routine. Students who arrive before 7:45am will be directed to the plaza. At 7:45am, a teacher will walk the students out to the blacktop for morning recess. All students arriving between 7:45am-8:00am can make their way towards the playground (using the main pathway past the plaza). At 8:00am, students will line up for morning announcements. I will be there early to help direct students to our line. Class begins at 8:10am. Dismissal will be at 2:10pm. Thank you parents. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Have a great day! Hello Parents,
Tomorrow the students will be able to participate in the Caine's Penny Arcade. If your child would like to bring in pennies to play, all proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It is for a wonderful cause. They can bring their pennies in a Ziploc bag and kept in their backpacks. If they are unable to bring pennies in to play, the school will provide pennies for your child. Thank you parents and have a good evening! |
